Beyond Survival
You can handle a basic day in a Mandarin-speaking city. However, when conversations shift to personality, values, or career, you feel your vocabulary shrinking. You sound like a child despite having an adult’s intellect.
Structured Fluency is designed to reclaim your personality in Mandarin. I move past predictable, informal routines and help you navigate the complex social and cultural themes that actually matter to you.
Is This For You?
This is for you if…
Are at an HSK 3 level or equivalent and want to reclaim their adult personality in Mandarin, moving beyond just 'knowing the rules'.
Can follow clear Chinese but still "freeze" when asked to give opinions, explain motives, or handle unexpected follow-up questions.
Want adult-life topics, from debating the urban-rural divide and career aspirations to mastering modern relationships; rather than student-life themes.
Value high-impact feedback and are ready to refine their accuracy through my individualized review process.
This is not for you if…
Are a beginner still building foundational vocabulary or relying on simple, predictable phrases.
Want exam-only preparation or traditional, lecture-style teaching that prioritizes abstract grammar over active use.
Prefer passive self-study with little emphasis on active speaking practice or real-world task execution.
Are looking for a casual "chat club" without a clear syllabus or high-stakes learning objectives.
My Acquisition Framework
I believe that language isn’t just "studied", it is acquired. My framework is built on the science of Comprehensible Input (CI), moving beyond rote grammar drills to provide the rich, authentic Mandarin your brain is naturally wired to process.
To bridge the gap between "knowing rules" and "real-world connection," my teaching is guided by these six pillars of acquisition:
· Rich & Meaningful Input: Successful acquisition requires exposure to abundant, interesting, and comprehensible language that mirrors real-life use.
· Dual Engagement: To maximize your progress, I ensure you are involved both affectively (emotionally) and cognitively throughout the learning process.
· The Positive Experience Factor: You develop communicative competence most effectively when the learning environment is low-stress and generates positive emotional experiences.
· Psychological Leveraging: My methods help you utilize the same mental resources and cognitive mechanisms you used to acquire your first language.
· Noticing Language in Action: I guide you to notice salient linguistic features within the input, allowing you to discover how Chinese forms actually function in context.
· Real-World Communicative Purpose: Every session provides opportunities to use Mandarin for its true purpose: achieving genuine communication goals.
The Structured Fluency Flow
1. Watch (Pre-Session Prep)
A week before a new topic begins, you receive an Input Pack. It contains a short, authentic video and a few guiding questions to prime your brain.
2. Discuss (Fluency First)
We start every new topic with 30 minutes of unfiltered discussion. No interruptions or corrections. We focus entirely on getting your ideas across using the tools you already have.
3. Master (Structured Deep-Dive)
Following the warm-up, we introduce the specific high-level vocabulary, connectors, and cultural logic needed to discuss the topic at a native-like depth. This is the phase where we bridge the gap to true fluency.
4. Refine (Individualised Review)
Following the initial 30-minute discussion of each new module, I provide a dedicated Refinement Report.
Observation Mode: To prioritize your natural flow, I observe without interrupting during the live "Fluency First" phase.
Targeted Upgrades: After the session, you receive a personal audio or video summary highlighting specific mistakes and "upgraded" phrasing.
Precision Growth: This ensures your accuracy matches your growing fluency without compromising your confidence during class.
